Sitting at approximately 2700 ft above sea level, overlooking the confluence of the North & Middle Forks of the American River in Placer County, this vineyard experiences a dramatic diurnal temperature swing -- with hot, sun-drenched days giving way to crisp clear nights on a regular basis. This encourages the fruit to full ripeness while still preserving a beautiful natural acidity that shines through in the finished wine. The soils are iron-rich mud overlaying bedrock strata of slate & shale, ensuring a mineral-rich source of nutrients for the vines.
As is typical for this Syrah, this wine is more earthy than fruity. There is some blueberry there, with leather & tobacco leading the way. It has fine tannins & a smooth, deep finish.
